Striking hotel design in Yeouido

Characterised by the unusual brick ornamentation which adorns its façade and contrasting with the glass structures that surround it, the Glad Hotel provides a new focal point in the centre of Yeouido, the “Manhattan of Seoul”.  

Intended as a reference to traditional South Korean houses, the brick theme continues in the design scheme inside the hotel. Here the playful use of materials lends light and depth to the public areas while creative details such as the street signs which direct guests to their rooms put the finishing touches to the innovative decor. The natural colours and clear lines which run through both the public areas such as the restaurant and café and the guestrooms give an overriding feeling of calm and warmth. Aficionados of fine spirits will be interested to note that the “Mark T” bar, named in honour of writer and whisky lover Mark Twain, offers the city’s widest collection of single malts.  

When fitting the modern electrical system the hotel operators in Seoul trusted in the skill of German manufacturer JUNG, opting for the modern, minimalist look of the switches and sockets in its “A creation” range. The accents provided by their striking frames in mocha, white and black marry perfectly with the hotel decor. The control units which allow guests to communicate with hotel personnel are from the same range. A switch in each room can be used to trigger a “Do not disturb” or “Make up room” message telling staff whether or not they can clean the room. These components are supplemented by the JUNG key card holder which allows guests to control the electricity supply to their rooms. When the key card is inserted, the lighting is switched on and the electrical circuits for the TV system, for example, are activated, ensuring optimum convenience for guests and increasing energy efficiency for the hotel operators. When the key card is removed, lighting and all other electrical consumers are switched off automatically.
